Furniture is where pure item-for-item swaps work best on MySwapShop, because bulky items are expensive to ship and awkward to sell for cash alone — but two people each decluttering a room often have exactly what the other needs. A dining table for a sofa, a wardrobe for a desk: these trades happen more often than you'd expect once you can actually search for them.

Because furniture is almost always a local, in-person handover, this category leans on our safety guidance more than most: agree a specific collection time, check the item in person before it leaves (or arrives), and bring a second person for larger pieces if you can.

Tips for furniture listings

• List dimensions (height/width/depth) — the single most common reason a furniture trade falls through is that it doesn't fit.
• Photograph from multiple angles, including any wear, scratches, or marks.
• State clearly whether you can help transport it, or whether the other person needs their own vehicle.
• Flat-pack furniture: mention whether it's still assembled or has been taken apart.
